2009 & 2010: The Best Time in Years to Buy a Wood or Pellet Stove

A solid fuel burning appliance, especially a woodstove, is among the least expensive ways to heat your home. When gas prices skyrocketed they were invaluable for saving money. It was a great time to have a woodstove- anyone who had or purchased one saved significantly on his or her heating bill.

Gas prices have come down, but now is an even better time to buy. Woodstoves pay themselves off in just a couple years. But in addition you'll get a 30% tax credit for up to $1,500 on any qualifying appliance. So the stove will pay itself off sooner, and because of their durable construction they will continue to save you money for decades.

Right now we don't know what the requirements are because the IRS hasn't released the rules yet, but we expect every one of our wood and pellet stoves to meet the IRS tax credits because they will probably use EPA standards. All our biomass products meet these requirements. Check with us frequently, however, because we should know soon. After all, the savings are supposed to apply to anything purchased since January 1st this year, and our manufacturers are anxious to promote it.
